Big Sur, California Road Trip

May 18, 2020

In January, my best friend Sydney (who is also a beautifully talented photographer) and I decided to venture from San Francisco down to San Diego. We did the same road trip almost five years ago–it was our very first adventure together and we’ve since been on countless more. There’s an overused saying that goes, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey.” As cheesy as it may be, that’s the motto we tend to live by when traveling. There’s something so thrilling about just driving, windows down, in a beautiful place. We spent this three day mini trip screaming Taylor Swift throwbacks on the tops of our lungs, running through fields dodging cow pies, and eating calamari and barbecued oysters by the sea. We stayed awake on minimal sleep, shitty $1 coffee, and lots of belly laughs.  It wasn’t about where we started or where we ended up, but all the random places and people we encountered along the 508 mile drive.

A few of my favorite spots:

Nepenthe

Henry Miller Memorial Library

Tognazzini’s Dockside Restaurant
